High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid separate courtesy calls on Hon’ble Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament H. E. Maj. (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker H.E. Barrister Kayser Kamal at the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad on 13 April 2026.

Hon’ble Speaker and Deputy Speaker expressed interest in promoting deeper exchanges with the Parliament of India. They discussed possible opportunities for exchanges between Parliamentary committees, capacity building opportunities for Members and officials of Parliament, and mutual visits of Parliamentary delegations.

High Commissioner underlined the importance of Parliamentary exchanges and cooperation as a vital part of our efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries. He also briefed Hon’ble Speaker and Deputy Speaker on various institutional initiatives taken by the Parliament of India to strengthen and modernize resources and practices.

High Commissioner also had a brief visit to the Parliament Library at the Jatiya Sangsad and exchanged views on potential collaboration between the libraries of the Parliaments of the two countries in areas such as digitization of records and collaborative research.

High Commissioner Pranay Verma joined the Minister of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Nitai Roy Chowdhury at a colourful cultural event on 13 April 2026 to mark the Chaitra Sankranti and the eve of the Bengali New Year.

The programme organized by the Itihas O Oitijjo Parishad at the National Museum of Bangladesh, featured a rich array of cultural performances signifying the traditional Bengali culture, including dances inspired by nature and changing seasons, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti, recitations and traditional Jari music.

Extending his warm greetings to the people of Bangladesh on Chaitra Sankranti and Pohela Baishakh, the High Commissioner described these festivities as an integral part of the deep-rooted shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh that closely connects the societies and peoples of the two countries.

High Commission of India and IGCC celebrated the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as the “ICCR Day” on 10 April 2026 in the IGCC premises in Gulshan, to mark the enduring cultural partnership between India and Bangladesh.

The event included an art camp by ICCR alumni and senior artists of Bangladesh, and a special cultural programme with musical, dance and yoga performances by IGCC students and ICCR alumni from Bangladesh. Acclaimed singer and ICCR scholar Priyanka Gope of Dhaka University presented a special performance of Rabindra Sangeet and classical songs.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Pranay Verma underlined the deep cultural affinity between India and Bangladesh as a source of strength for their relationship. He highlighted the role of ICCR in fostering a vibrant cultural dialogue between the two countries. He described ICCR as the ‘cultural heartbeat’ of Indian diplomacy, fostering cultural dialogues transcending borders.

Marking the occasion, High Commissioner also inaugurated a two-day art camp — “Sampriti” — hosted by IGCC, which brought together over thirty celebrated artists and ICCR scholars from Bangladesh, including luminaries like Farida Zaman, Jamal Ahmed, Md. Eunus, Nissar Hossain and Ranjit Das, to name a few. The art works created by them during the camp will be displayed publicly at a two-week art exhibition at IGCC scheduled to be inaugurated on 30 April.

During the event, High Commissioner also paid heartfelt tributes to senior artist and ICCR scholar from Bangladesh, Tarun Ghosh, who had accepted the invitation to join the art camp Sampriti, but tragically passed away on 9 April.

ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সাংস্কৃতিক সম্পর্ক উদ্‌যাপন উপলক্ষ্যে ভারতীয় হাই কমিশন ‘আইসিসিআর দিবস’ পালন করেছে

ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান দীর্ঘস্থায়ী সাংস্কৃতিক অংশীদারিত্বকে স্মরণীয় করে রাখার লক্ষ্যে ভারতীয় হাই কমিশন ও আইজিসিসি ১০ এপ্রিল ২০২৬-এ গুলশানে অবস্থিত আইজিসিসি প্রাঙ্গণে “আইসিসিআর দিবস” হিসেবে ইন্ডিয়ান কাউন্সিল ফর কালচারাল রিলেশনস (আইসিসিআর)-এর ৭৭তম প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উদ্‌যাপন করে।

এই অনুষ্ঠানটিতে বাংলাদেশের আইসিসিআর অ্যালামনাইগণ ও জ্যেষ্ঠ শিল্পীদের অংশগ্রহণে একটি আর্ট ক্যাম্প এবং আইজিসিসি শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ ও বাংলাদেশের আইসিসিআর অ্যালামনাইগণ কর্তৃক সঙ্গীত, নৃত্য ও যোগ পরিবেশনা নিয়ে একটি বিশেষ সাংস্কৃতিক আয়োজন অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্বনামধন্য কণ্ঠশিল্পী ও আইসিসিআর স্কলার প্রিয়াঙ্কা গোপ রবীন্দ্রসঙ্গীত ও শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতের একটি বিশেষ পরিবেশনা উপস্থাপন করেন।

High Commissioner Pranay Verma called on H.E. Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. A.K.M Shamsul Islam, Defence Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on 08 April 2026.

They underlined the importance of sustained development of India-Bangladesh ties, and affirmed the unshakeable bond between the two countries rooted in their shared sacrifices during Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971.

They reviewed their wide ranging security and defence cooperation, including bilateral consultation mechanisms, training exchanges, capacity building initiatives and exchanges between the defence institutes of the two countries. They discussed ways to further strengthen their defence ties as an important component of their overall bilateral relationship. They also exchanged views on common security challenges and agreed to work together to promote peace, security and stability in the region.

High Commissioner conveyed India’s willingness to closely work with the Government of Bangladesh to enhance their multifaceted cooperation based on mutual interest and mutual benefit.

তাঁরা ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কের টেকসই উন্নয়নের তাৎপর্যের ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন এবং ১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন সময়ে উভয়ের যৌথ আত্মত্যাগের ওপর ভিত্তি করে দুই দেশের মধ্যে গড়ে ওঠা অবিচ্ছেদ্য বন্ধনের কথা দৃঢ় প্রত্যয়ের সাথে ব্যক্ত করেন।

High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism H.E. Mrs. Afroza Khanam Rita on 09 April 2026. Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism H.E. M Rashiduzzaman Millat also joined the meeting.

They held discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of civil aviation, improving air connectivity, enhancing air cargo capacity, improving aviation infrastructure and exploring capacity building opportunities.

High Commissioner briefed the Hon’ble Ministers on the ongoing major developments in India’s aviation sector that make India the fastest growing civil aviation market in the world today and which offer opportunities for cooperation for the advancement of Bangladesh’s aviation sector based on mutual interest and mutual benefit.

তাঁরা বেসামরিক বিমান পরিবহন খাতে দ্বিপাক্ষিক সহযোগিতা বৃদ্ধিকরণ, আকাশপথে সংযোগের উন্নয়ন সাধন, এয়ার কার্গো-র সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধিকরণ, বিমান চলাচল অবকাঠামোর উন্নয়ন সাধন ও সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধিকরণের সুযোগসমূহ অন্বেষণ করার বিষয়ে আলোচনা করেন।

They discussed bilateral cooperation in wide-ranging areas such as environmental protection, green development and conservation strategies, afforestation, climate action, renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon trading. They also exchanged views on conservation of shared ecosystems, biodiversity and wildlife conservation in Sunderbans. They agreed to explore enhanced engagement through exchange visits by experts and sharing of best practices and technology.
