Mou Signing Ceremony India-Bangladesh

Signing of MoU between Indian Oil Corporation Limited(IOCL), and Road andHighways department (RHD),Bangladesh at Dhaka India-Bangladesh relations have been exceptionally friendly and cordial and this was further more established when in May’22, heavy monsoons resulted in disruption of supplies of Petroleum Goods to the state of Assam and Tripura in India and both countries took the lead to facilitate movement of Petroleum Goods (Motor Spirit, High-Speed Diesel, Superior Kerosene Oil &Liquefied Petroleum Gas) via the territory of Bangladesh to NE India. In this regard, IndianOil and Roads and Highways Department , Govt of Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 3rd August, 2022 whereby an option of alternate route via Bangladesh is provided to overcome the crisis of fuel supplies in case of similar emergency situations in future. The MoU will be valid till November 2022. The MOU was signed by Mohd Mazher Alam, Country Manager Bangladesh, on behalf of IndianOil Corporation Ltd. and Abdullah Mamun, Additional Chief Engineer,Technical Services, Roads and Highways Department, Bangladesh at Dhaka. The event was also graced by A B M Amin Ullah Nuri (Secretory of Bangladesh Road and Highway Division) and Shri Pratik D Negi(1st Secretory Commerce and Energy, High Commission of India in Dhaka ), Md. Fazle Rabbe (Additional Chief Engineer, Sylhet zone), Neelima Akhter (Additional Secretary), Sultana Yasmin (Joint Secretary), Govt of Bangladesh The agreement has been made possible through continuous support and guidance from High Commission of India in Dhaka , Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) ,Ministry of External Affairs , Govt. of India, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Ministry of Road and Highwaysand Bridge Division , Govt of Bangladesh . The Petroleum /LPG road tankers will enter in sealed conditions at Dawki in Meghalay -Tamabil ( Bangladesh ) and will exit at Chatlapur ( Bangladesh -Kailasshar ( Tripura ) in sealed conditions. Around 140 kms of Bangladesh roads will be used. Per day a maximum of 40 numbers of tankers will be sent from each side. The service is for a short term to tide over the immediate and urgent need for alternative supply routes owing to infrastructure damage sustained in Assam due to flooding through this year’s rains.
