India was the first country to recognize Bangladesh as a separate and independent country and established diplomatic relations with the country immediately after its independence in December 1971. The relationship between India and Bangladesh is anchored in history, culture, language and shared values of secularism, democracy, and countless other commonalities between the two countries. It is based on sovereignty, equality, trust, understanding and a win-win partnership that goes far beyond a strategic partnership. In the last couple of years, the relationship has been further strengthened including through cooperation in new and high-technology areas.
With the onset of economic liberalization in South Asia, India & Bangladesh forged greater bilateral engagement and trade. They are close strategic partners in counter-terrorism. They are also the largest trading partners in South Asia.

High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi held a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Commerce, Industries, Textiles & Jute of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, on 24 August 2026. Discussions on various aspects of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation between India and Bangladesh was held.
High Commissioner emphasized the important role of businesses and the private sector in steering the economic partnership for mutually beneficial trade and investment. A broad gamut of issues of mutual interest and mutual benefit was also discussed.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strong people-to-people ties as an enduring foundation of India-Bangladesh relations, and the need to further deepen connections between the business communities, professionals and people of the two countries.

এই আলোচনায় ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কের স্থায়ী ভিত্তি হিসেবে জনগণের মধ্যে সুদৃঢ় বন্ধন, এবং দুই দেশের ব্যবসায়ী সম্প্রদায়, পেশাজীবী ও সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে সংযোগ আরও গভীর করার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপরও আলোকপাত করা হয়।

The High Commission of India in Dhaka hosted a Business Reception on 18 August 2026, bringing together the visiting delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and leading members of the business community in Bangladesh for meaningful interactions aimed at advancing bilateral economic and commercial cooperation and fostering stronger business-to-business linkages between India and Bangladesh.
High Commissioner Mr. Dinesh Trivedi highlighted the shared aspirations of the youth and the development goals of both countries. He underscored the important role of businesses in translating these aspirations into opportunities, building enduring partnerships and fostering long-lasting ties between India and Bangladesh.
Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Shama Obaed Islam graced the occasion and delivered the keynote speech. CII Director General, Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee also addressed the gathering.

A mother’s simple request can sometimes spark meaningful change. At his first inspection of the Indian Visa Application Centre, a mother appealed to High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi for a safe play area where children could stay while their parents applied for visas.
Just a few weeks later, her request became a reality. And today, she returned to inaugurate the very play area she had envisioned, along with her child.
A small initiative, but one that reflects a larger spirit: India delivers.
It is these people-centric efforts that bring India-Bangladesh ties to life, a relationship whose strongest foundation is its people.

একজন মায়ের সাধারণ একটি অনুরোধ কখনও কখনও তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ পরিবর্তনের সূচনা ঘটাতে পারে। ভারতীয় ভিসা আবেদন কেন্দ্রে তাঁর প্রথম পরিদর্শন চলাকালীন সময়ে, হাই কমিশনার দীনেশ ত্রিবেদীর কাছে একজন মা একটি নিরাপদ খেলার জায়গার জন্য অনুরোধ জানান, যেখানে বাবা-মায়েরা ভিসার জন্য আবেদন করার সময় শিশুরা অবস্থান করতে পারবে।
