Today Assistant High Commissioner, Agartala Mr. Arif Mohammad paid a courtesy call on Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Shri Dipak Majumder, AMC Commissioner Dr. Sailesh Kumar Yadav, Deputy Mayor Smt. Manika Das Datta and visited the newly inaugurated Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala for paying tribute to PVC Albert Ekka who embraced martydom during the great liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. Among others, the visit was also accompanied by the General Secretary of the Agartala Press Club, Shri Pranab Sarkar and the Chairman of the Dainik Sambad, Shri Sanjay Pal. Shaheed Lance Naik Albert Ekka (Param Vir Chakra) was a soldier of 14 Gaurd Regiment of the Indian Army, who embraced martydom after destroying the enemy bunkers in the battle for Gangasagar. For his valiant role and immeasurable contribution to the Liberation War, Shaheed Lance Naik Albert Ekka Param Vir Chakra was awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous) by the Government of Bangladesh in 2012.
