Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata observed the 'Genocide Day' on 25 March 2024 at the Bangladesh Gallery of the Mission premises by holding different programs. The program started with screening of a documentary that portrayed the massive scale of genocide committed against the innocent people of Bangladesh during the long nine months starting from 25 March 1971. Later, a minute of silence was observed to show respect to the freedom fighters and innocent people who were brutally murdered at the hands of Pakistani forces and their collaborators. Later, floral wreath was laid at the portrait of Bangabandhu which was followed by reading out messages from Hon'ble President and Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh. A discussion session was held where the discussants highlighted different historical documents and narratives that established the fact of genocide carried out by the Pakistani forces and their collaborators on the innocent people of Bangladesh. The Hon'ble Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata highlighted the effort of Bangladesh Government under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the international recognition of the genocide. He further remarked that despite the wanton cruelty and untold oppression inflicted upon the people of Bangladesh, it is the resilience of the people and their aspiration for peace and harmony that have glorified its identity on the world stage and steered Bangladesh to its current path toward development.
