Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata observed the 104th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day on 17 March 2024 by organizing a host of programmes. Floral wreaths were placed at the bust of Bangabandhu at the “Mujib Chiranjeeb” at the Deputy High Commission and at the “Baker Hostel”. Later, a discussion session was organized where Mr. Snehasis Sur, President of Kolkata Press Club and Ms. Natasha Ahmed, Development worker and a childhood friend and neighbour of Shaheed Sheikh Russel discussed the larger-than-life sketch of Bangabandhu highlighting his humbleness, generosity and affection towards children. The Deputy High Commissioner urged the members of the Mission and invited guests to uphold and nurture the ideals of Bangabandhu in building his cherished “Sonar Bangla”. Essay competition and drawing competition on Bangabandhu for different age groups of children were also organized. In the evening, a cultural programme was arranged with participation by children and the Bangladeshi students studying in West Bengal. After the cultural programme, prizes were distributed among the participants of the essay competition and drawing competition. With all these activities, the Deputy High Commission tried to inspire the children and the youth to learn more about the life, struggle and ideal of Bangabandhu, as today’s children will emerge as tomorrow’s visionary leader.
