Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata organized day long program to observe the “National Mourning Day” on 15 August 2023 with due solemnity which started with laying floral wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu at the “Mujib Chironjib” corner of the Mission and “Baker Govt. Hostel” where he had stayed during his student life in Kolkata. Special prayers were organized for Bangabandhu and his martyred family members at the Mission and Baker Hostel. Lunch was arranged for orphans at an orphanage. In the evening, discussion session was held at the Bangladesh Gallery of the Deputy High Commission, with laying floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu followed by observing a minute silence, screening of documentary, reading out the messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs. H.E. Mr. Biman Banerjee, Hon’ble Speaker of West Bengal Legislative Assembly was the Chief Guest of the event and in his speech, he highlighted that the ideal of Bangabandhu can never be extinguished and the exemplary progress of Bangladesh reflects the indomitable spirit of Bangabandhu and Bangladeshis. Besides, Dr. Pabitra Sarkar, eminent educationalist, former Vice- Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University and awardee of “Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War” and Mr. Snehasis Sur, President, Kolkata Press Club attended the event and discussed on the enormous contribution of Bangabandhu in Bangladesh and in the world and hailed the socio-economic and cultural advancement of Bangladesh led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In his speech, the Deputy High Commissioner paid his utmost homage to Bangabandhu and his martyred family members. The Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the aspiration of Bangabandhu and elaborated how the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strengthened Bangladesh to overcome many challenges. He further highlighted the firm resolve of Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata to do its best for implementing the development journey of Bangladesh led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
