In a reflection of their shared history and long-standing friendship and harmony, Indian and Bangladeshi Armed Forces came together to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the Liberation War of 1971 on the occasion of the Bijoy Diwas on 16 December 2024.

The event saw senior officers from both sides led by Chief of Staff 101 Area of Indian Army, Maj. Gen. Sumit Rana, and GOC 33 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army, Maj. Gen. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq exchanging greetings and sweets at the Agartala-Akhaura border in Tripura.

​The warmth and camaraderie on display during the ceremony brought back poignant memories of the historical partnership and glorious sacrifices made by the Bangladeshi Muktijoddhas and the soldiers of Indian Armed Forces during the struggle that the valiant men and women of Bangladesh waged for their national liberation, which culminated in the Mahan Bijoy Diwas on 16 December 1971.

The event also underlined the important role Tripura and Agartala played in the Liberation War of 1971.

During the event, both sides recalled and reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between the armed forces of India and Bangladesh and between their peoples, which has been forged in blood and rooted in the spirit of justice, freedom and equality.

The day’s events at Agartala also included a Wreath Laying ceremony and flag-in of a Cycle Rally by the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura at the Albert Ekka War Memorial. A felicitation ceremony for Indian Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris who participated in the Liberation War of 1971, was also held on the same day.

যৌথ ইতিহাস, দীর্ঘস্থায়ী বন্ধুত্ব ও সম্প্রীতির প্রতিফলন হিসেবে, ভারতীয় ও বাংলাদেশি সশস্ত্র বাহিনী একসাথে ১৬ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৪-এ মহান বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ৫৩তম বার্ষিকী উদ্‌যাপন করেছে।

এই অনুষ্ঠানে ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীর ১০১ এরিয়া চিফ অফ স্টাফ মেজর জেনারেল সুমিত রানা ও বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর ৩৩ ইনফ্যান্ট্রি ডিভিশনের জিওসি মেজর জেনারেল আবুল হাসনাত মোহাম্মদ তারিকের নেতৃত্বে উভয় পক্ষের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাগণ ত্রিপুরার আগরতলা-আখাউড়া সীমান্তে শুভেচ্ছা ও মিষ্টি বিনিময় করেন।

এই অনুষ্ঠান চলাকালে প্রদর্শিত উষ্ণতা ও মৈত্রী মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন সময়ে বাংলাদেশি মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ও ভারতীয় সশস্ত্র বাহিনীর ঐতিহাসিক অংশীদারত্ব ও গৌরবময় আত্মত্যাগের মর্মস্পর্শী স্মৃতি স্মরণ করিয়ে দেয়, যেখানে বাংলাদেশের সাহসী নারী-পুরুষগণ তাঁদের জাতীয় মুক্তির জন্য যে সংগ্রাম চালিয়েছিলেন, যার চূড়ান্ত পরিণতি ঘটেছিল ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর মহান বিজয় দিবসে।

এই অনুষ্ঠানটি ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে ত্রিপুরা ও আগরতলার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকার কথাও তুলে ধরে।

এই অনুষ্ঠান চলাকালে, উভয় পক্ষই ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের সশস্ত্র বাহিনীর মধ্যে ও তাঁদের জনগণের মধ্যে রক্তের বন্ধনে গড়ে ওঠা গভীর বন্ধুত্বের কথা স্মরণ করে এবং তা পুনর্ব্যক্ত করে, যা ন্যায়বিচার, স্বাধীনতা ও সমতার চেতনার ওপর ভিত্তি করে প্রতিষ্ঠিত।

আগরতলায় আজকের দিনের আয়োজনে অ্যালবার্ট এক্কা ওয়্যার মেমোরিয়ালে ত্রিপুরার মাননীয় রাজ্যপালের উপস্থিতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ ও একটি সাইকেল র‍্যালির সূচনাও অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল। একই দিনে ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণকারী ভারতীয় প্রাক্তন সেনাসদস্য ও বীর নারীদের সংবর্ধনা অনুষ্ঠানও আয়োজন করা হয়।
