High Commission of India hosted an Iftar in Dhaka on 07 March 2026.

Addressing the guests at the event, High Commissioner Pranay Verma extended warm greetings to the people of Bangladesh during the holy month of Ramadan. He highlighted the bonds of friendship and societal and familial links between India and Bangladesh, which make their relationship a truly people-centric one, rooted in their shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of 1971.

High Commissioner noted that as two aspiring and forward moving societies, India and Bangladesh stand at the cusp of a new future where they can offer to each other and to the region, shared prosperity by working together. He expressed India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh, and described the presence of the large number of guests from a wide array of Bangladeshi society at the Iftar as a reaffirmation of shared commitment to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Guests from all walks of life, including dignitaries from the Government of Bangladesh and various political parties, senior officials from government and armed forces, representatives from business, civil society, media, academia, think tanks, and cultural organisations, attended the event.

হাই কমিশনার প্রণয় ভার্মা এই অনুষ্ঠানে অতিথিবৃন্দের উদ্দেশ্যে বক্তব্য প্রদানকালে চলমান পবিত্র রমজান মাস উপলক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশের জনগণের প্রতি আন্তরিক শুভেচ্ছা নিবেদন করেন। তিনি ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক এবং সামাজিক ও পারিবারিক বন্ধনের বিষয়টিকে বিশেষভাবে তুলে ধরেন, যা এই দুইটি দেশের সম্পর্ককে সত্যিকার অর্থেই জনগণকেন্দ্রিক করে তুলেছে এবং যার ভিত্তি ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন সময়ের অভিন্ন আত্মত্যাগের মাঝে নিহিত রয়েছে।

হাই কমিশনার উল্লেখ করেন, দুইটি উচ্চাকাঙ্ক্ষী ও অগ্রসরমান সমাজ হিসেবে, ভারত ও বাংলাদেশ একটি নতুন ভবিষ্যতের দ্বারপ্রান্তে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে, যেখানে একসঙ্গে কাজ করার মাধ্যমে তারা একে অপরকে এবং এই সমগ্র অঞ্চলটিকে যৌথ সমৃদ্ধি উপহার প্রদান করতে পারে। তিনি একটি গণতান্ত্রিক, স্থিতিশীল, শান্তিপূর্ণ, প্রগতিশীল ও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক বাংলাদেশের প্রতি ভারতের সমর্থনের কথা ব্যক্ত করেন এবং এই ইফতার অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশের সমাজের বিভিন্ন স্তর থেকে আগত বিপুল সংখ্যক অতিথির উপস্থিতিকে এই দুইটি দেশের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান বন্ধুত্ব ও সহযোগিতার বন্ধনকে আরও দৃঢ় করার লক্ষ্যে যৌথ অঙ্গীকারের পুনর্ব্যক্তি হিসেবে বর্ণনা করেন।

এই অনুষ্ঠানটিতে বাংলাদেশ সরকারের এবং বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিবর্গ, সরকার ও সশস্ত্র বাহিনীর ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাগণ, ব্যবসায়িক মহলের প্রতিনিধিবৃন্দ, সুশীল সমাজের বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিবর্গ, গণমাধ্যমকর্মীবৃন্দ, শিক্ষাবিদগণ, বিশিষ্ট চিন্তাবিদগণ ও সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠনসমূহের প্রতিনিধিবৃন্দসহ সমাজের সকল স্তরের অতিথিগণ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
