High Commissioner Pranay Verma called on H.E. Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. A.K.M Shamsul Islam, Defence Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on 08 April 2026.

They underlined the importance of sustained development of India-Bangladesh ties, and affirmed the unshakeable bond between the two countries rooted in their shared sacrifices during Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971.

They reviewed their wide ranging security and defence cooperation, including bilateral consultation mechanisms, training exchanges, capacity building initiatives and exchanges between the defence institutes of the two countries. They discussed ways to further strengthen their defence ties as an important component of their overall bilateral relationship. They also exchanged views on common security challenges and agreed to work together to promote peace, security and stability in the region.

High Commissioner conveyed India’s willingness to closely work with the Government of Bangladesh to enhance their multifaceted cooperation based on mutual interest and mutual benefit.

হাই কমিশনার প্রণয় ভার্মা ০৮ এপ্রিল ২০২৬-এ বাংলাদেশের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর মাননীয় প্রতিরক্ষা উপদেষ্টা ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল (অব:) ড. এ কে এম শামছুল ইসলামের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করেন।

তাঁরা ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কের টেকসই উন্নয়নের তাৎপর্যের ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন এবং ১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন সময়ে উভয়ের যৌথ আত্মত্যাগের ওপর ভিত্তি করে দুই দেশের মধ্যে গড়ে ওঠা অবিচ্ছেদ্য বন্ধনের কথা দৃঢ় প্রত্যয়ের সাথে ব্যক্ত করেন।

তাঁরা দ্বিপাক্ষিক পরামর্শ ব্যবস্থা, প্রশিক্ষণ বিনিময়, সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি-সংক্রান্ত উদ্যোগসমূহ এবং দুই দেশের প্রতিরক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানসমূহের মধ্যে বিনিময়সহ তাঁদের বিস্তৃত নিরাপত্তা ও প্রতিরক্ষা সহযোগিতা পর্যালোচনা করেন। তাঁরা তাঁদের সামগ্রিক দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্কের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ উপাদান হিসেবে প্রতিরক্ষা সম্পর্ককে আরও সুদৃঢ় করার উপায় নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন। তাঁরা অভিন্ন নিরাপত্তা প্রতিবন্ধকতাসমূহ নিয়েও মতবিনিময় করেন এবং এই আঞ্চলিক শান্তি, নিরাপত্তা ও স্থিতিশীলতা উন্নীত করার লক্ষ্যে একসঙ্গে কাজ করার বিষয়ে সম্মতি প্রকাশ করেন।

হাই কমিশনার পারস্পরিক স্বার্থ ও পারস্পরিক কল্যাণের ওপর ভিত্তি করে বহুমাত্রিক সহযোগিতাকে সুদৃঢ় করার লক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশ সরকারের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে কাজ করার ক্ষেত্রে ভারতের আগ্রহের কথা ব্যক্ত করেন।
